Palmetto resident Emiliano Grillo takes PGA Championship lead

AP

Emiliano Grillo, a Palmetto resident and IMG Academy alum, has surged to the top of the leaderboard at the PGA Championship in Springfield, N.J., on Friday. Playing his second round on Baltustrol Golf Club’s back nine, Grillo birdied back-to-back holes to get to 7-under par for the tournament and a one-shot lead.

Grillo, an Argentina native, is set to play in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August and burst onto the PGA Tour scene after winning the Frys.com Open late in 2015.

He’s currently through seven holes in his second round.
