A usual amateur miscue when putting is getting the right setup before striking the ball. Waterlefe Golf and River Club’s Matt Hill gives an important drill to keeping your eyes over the ball at address.
“When they stand too far away from the ball, so when their eye line is kind of inside their ball line, they’re typically going to pull the putt closer to them,” Hill said. “So they’re going to pull a lot of putts. For players that stand kind of too close to the ball, where their eye line is kind of outside of that ball line, you’re going to see them kind of push it. They’re going to try to generate more room, and kind of push that putter face away from them.”
