Sha’la McMillan sets records at USA Weightlifting youth championship
Sha’la McMillan added another world record and the lifters from Full Circle Performance are bringing a pair of gold medals to Bradenton’s City Fitness.
McMillan set new records for her weight class and age in all three lifts — snatch, clean and jerk, and total — on her way to a gold medal in the 16-17, 75-plus kilogram division at the USA Weightlifting Youth National Championship this past weekend in Austin, Texas. Palmetto High School’s McMillan snatched 96 kilograms, and clean and jerked 117 for a total of 213 and a gold medal.
Maryah Collins, also from Palmetto, added a gold for Full Circle with her first place performance in the 14-15 53-kilogram division. Collins snatched 54, clean and jerked 71 and finished with a total of 125.
Nahum Guerrero was Full Circle Performances next best finisher despite it being his first competitive meet. The third Tiger finished fifth in the 16-17, 77-kilogram division with a snatch of 96 kilograms, a clean and jerk of 131 and a total of 227.
Bradenton Christian School’s Skylar Matelau rounded out Manatee County’s group with an eighth-place finish.
