IMG, Tampa Bay United reach bracket play at US Youth Soccer regional

Both IMG Academy and Tampa Bay United Premier 98 have Monday off at the U.S. Youth Soccer Association Region III Championships before beginning bracket play in Frisco, Texas, on Tuesday.

IMG, which is playing in the U-19 girls field, went 1-1-1 during pool play Friday, Saturday and Sunday, finishing with a 4-1 win against Texas’ Brownsville United FC 97 to seal its spot in the semifinals. The Ascenders will meet North Carolina’s 96 TFCA Alliance on Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. for a spot in Wednesday’s championship game.

Tampa Bay United Premier is on to the U-17 quarterfinals following a 2-0-1 record in group play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tampa Bay United, which includes Lakewood Ranch High School midfielder Maddison Krstec, played to a 0-0 draw with Alabama’s Vestavia Attack 99 Black in the final game of pool play Sunday and will face Georgia’s United FA 99 Premier in quarterfinals Tuesday at 11 a.m. If Tampa Bay reaches the championship game, United will play at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Krstec has scored once for Tampa Bay, netting a first-half goal in a win against Texans 99 Red Dallas on Saturday. Malani Lee leads IMG with three goals.
