Manatee High’s Gabrielle Tomeo two shots back at state junior

Manatee High’s Gabrielle Tomeo is two shots off the lead after the first round of the Florida State Girls Junior Amateur Championship at The Oaks Golf Club in Osprey. Tomeo, playing in the 16-18 year old division, carded an even-par 72 on the Heron Course on Monday and sits in fourth place, two shots off the pace set by Heathrow’s Jenny Kim. IMG Academy’s Caitlin Cotterill (73) is tied for fifth. Bradenton’s Rachel Carlson fired a 77 on the Heron Course to tie for eighth place after the first round in the 13-15 division. She’s seven behind leader Siyan Chen, of Howey-in-the-Hills. The tournament continues Tuesday, before concluding on Wednesday.
