Duchscherer runs away for bomber win
Brandon Duchscherer overcame cooling system problems to pull away on a restart to win the inaugural Florida State Bomber Championship at Desoto Speedway on Saturday.
Duchscherer started in the middle of the 22-car field, which consisted of drivers from throughout the state, and steadily worked his way through the pack. Carl Thompson was the fastest qualifier, but thanks to an eight-row inversion, he started 16th. Josh Hall took the green flag, but soon gave way to Nicholas Malverty.
Malverty lost power and turned over the top spot to James Wright, who set the pace until the caution that set up Duchscherer push.
Rounding out the top five were James Wright, Brian Harbin, Aaron Holmes and Jamie Castleberry.
In other features, Josh Bridges won the 25-lap enduro feature that was marred by a red flag prompted by a five-car wreck. Steve Majors finished second and Matt McCrary was third.
Ted Braun, Tony Edwards and Jonathan Gray finished in the top three in the 15-lap quad racing feature.
In several novelty events, Josh Bridges won the road course event; Shawn Senokossoff won both the flagpole race and the school bus figure-8s race.
Desoto Speedway is scheduled to race again on Saturday. The feature events are scheduled to be the Southern Sprintcar Shootout Series along with a 75-lap street-stock feature.
