Southeast’s Benjamin Hoyle gets walk-on shot as 6 teammates commit
Six Southeast seniors made their college commitments official Thursday during a ceremony at Southeast High School, while one other earned an invite to Florida State as a walk-on.
Three are headed to junior colleges, one to a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics program and two to a Division II schools.
Lineman Benjamin Hoyle, who didn’t take part in the Seminoles’ commitment ceremony, was invited to FSU’s fall camp as a walk-on. Hoyle played tackle, guard and defensive end for the Noles.
Wide receiver Quan Laguerre and lineman Blake Green are headed to Division II after making commitments to the University of West Florida in Pensacola and Northwest Missouri State University, respectively. Laguerre caught 16 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown last season and Green was named second-team All-Area as a center.
Kevin Johnson, who was the Herald All-Area Offensive Player of the Year for his performance as a running back and quarterback, committed to Highland Community College, a JUCO in Kansas, along with lineman Michael Davis. Johnson, who also played safety, led Manatee County with 1,342 rushing yards during the regular season and threw for 378 yards with a 55.8 completion percentage as the Seminoles’ back-up quarterback. Davis was an all-area honorable mention.
Keshawn Moultrie will also play at a JUCO after committing to Blinn College in Texas. Moultrie, who was primarily a cornerback for the Noles, caught 10 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown as a wide receiver.
