Blue Jays beat Marauders

DUNEDIN 3, BRADENTON 1

The Marauders’ bats stayed mostly quiet Saturday night as Bradenton hitters managed just five hits and one run in their loss to the Blue Jays.

Colten Brewer took the loss and his record fell to 1-6 on the season. He pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up five hits, including a home run, three earned runs, walking four and striking out eight.

Bradenton’s sole run came in the bottom of the seventh when Jerrick Suiter and Jordan Luplow walked, then Blue Jays’ pitcher Adonys Cardona uncorked two wild pitches, the first to advance runners to second and third, and the second to send Suiter across the plate.

Dunedin’s Dickie Joe Thon homored with one out in the first, and then in the second Anthony Alford scored on a groundout to make it 2-0. In the fifth, the Blue Jays plated another run on a bases-loaded walk.

The Marauders’ offense couldn’t overcome the four double plays that Dunedin turned.

Up next: Francisco Rios (1-1, 2.92) takes the hill for Dunedin in a game that starts at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Marauders have not announced their starting pitcher yet.
