Boxing: Gonzalez wins pro debut

Angel Gonzalez, a 23-year-old resident of Sarasota, won a fourth-round TKO against St. Clair Mirraine Jr. in his pro boxing debut in Tallahassee on Saturday. Both men fought at 141 pounds. The fight was stopped at 2:10 of the fourth and final round when Gonzalez trapped his opponent on the ropes, threw a number of punches and the referee stepped in.

Golf: Bobby Jones Golf Club sets camps

The Bobby Jones Golf Club in Sarasota has scheduled a Drive, Chip & Putt Boot Camp on May 21 and May 28. The camp leads into the annual PGA Drive, Chip & Putt qualifying competition scheduled for June 4. Junior golfers, ages 7-15, who are registered for the DCP qualifier, can participate in the boot camp at no cost. More information on the DCP competition can be found at www.DriveChipAndPutt.com

The course also has scheduled three junior clinics, for ages 8 to 18. Each three-day clinic runs from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $100 per child. The clinics are scheduled for June 21-23, July 12-14 and August 9-11.

Lessons include golf etiquette as well as the mechanics of driving, chipping and putting.
