Boxing: Cano remains unbeaten

BONITA SPRINGS -- Thirteen-year-old Andrew Cano of Sarasota decisioned Jaden Pozo in a USA Boxing fight card Saturday night.

Both fighters weighed in at 140 pounds. The bout was Cano's third and Pozo's first. Cano, who attends Booker Middle School and represents the Sarasota Boxing Club, improved to 3-0.

Prep baseball: Southeast beats Gibbs

ST. PETERSBURG -- Alex Quinones went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and also pitched 4 innings of 1-hit ball as the Seminoles pounded Gibbs 16-2. Blake Green went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs.

ELSEWHERE -- Brian Dillingham was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Gavin Root went 2 for 3 as Braden River beat host Riverview 4-3 on Monday. The Pirates (15-5, 7-1) will play Sarasota at home on Tuesday.

College baseball: SCF beats FSC 8-4

AVON PARK -- Rickie Rivera had a three-run homer and Ethan Skender had a two-run shot as the Manatees beat Florida State College 8-4 on Monday.

Tyler Romanik added 3 RBIs with a double and triple in four at-bats.

Kade Hunkatiller got the win in relief for SCF (23-16, 8-8 conference), pitching 3 1/3 innings, striking out two, giving up two hits, walking three and giving up no runs.

SCF's next game is a rainout completion Wedensday at Florida State College, followed by a full game.
