Prep roundup | Saint Stephen's baseball breezes past Bradenton Christian

Nick Runde hurled a complete game without allowing an earned run and Saint Stephen's rolled to a 9-3 home win against Bradenton Christian in Bradenton. The pitcher struck out three batters and walked one to carry the Falcons (8-7, 6-6 Class 3A-District 5) to a district victory. Shortstop Mike Madigan and slugging catcher Jake Westberry each went 2 for 3 with an RBI to pace the SSES offense. Saint Stephen's district play Thursday at Moore Athletic Complex at Turner Fields against Imagine School of North Port. The Panthers (5-10, 4-7) return home Thursday to host Bayshore.

Boys lacrosse

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 18, SAINT STEPHEN'S 4 -- Attacks Ian Martin, Leland Wheeler, Jason Fineberg, Jon Eichenbaum and Kevin Deems all recorded hat tricks and Out-of-Door blew out the Falcons in Bradenton. Martin contributed to seven of the Thunder's 18 goals, scoring four times and dishing out three assists. Defensive midfielders Hunter Coakley and Gus Mahler each added single goals to round out the scoring for ODA (11-2, 5-1 District 17) at Moore Athletic Complex at Turner Fields. Out-of-Door plays its penultimate game of the regular season Tuesday against Riverview in Sarasota. SSES (4-8, 1-5) will also be in Sarasota to close out district play against Sarasota Military Academy.

JUCO baseball

ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE 9, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 3 -- Andrew Dilacqua belted a homer and drove in two runs, but SCF fell in St. Petersburg. Infielder Keshawn Lynch drove in the only other run for the Manatees (19-12, 5-4 Suncoast) with a double. SCF will have a chance to bounce back on a quick turnaround when it faces Hillsborough Community College on Wednesday in Tampa.

JUCO softball

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 7, HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE 3 -- SCF swept a doubleheader with HCC, first winning 6-3 before closing out the day with another easy victory. Jessica Reid picked up her 13th win of the season in the nightcap after Kayla Maxwell earned her 10th earlier in the day. Infielders Erica Ward, Brittany Gilliam and Jaime Harney paced the Manatees (23-10) offensively in Bradenton. Ward belted a homer in Game 1, then went 3 for 3 to close out the day. Gilliam also homered in the first game before driving in two runs to help sweep the Hawks. Harney went 2 for 3 in both games and recorded two RBIs in the second. SCF gets a week off before traveling down to Fort Myers for a doubleheader with Florida Southwestern State College on March 29.
