Gladiators football wins second straight

The Southwest Florida Gladiators, an adult amateur football team which plays at Lakewood Ranch High School, won a defensive struggle with the Palm Beach Makos 14-0 on Saturday at Bulldog Field.

The Gladiators opened the scoring with a safety in the second quarter and added a late touchdown pass from quarterback PeeJay Jack to wide receiver Jeff Charlton to take an 8-0 lead into the half. Makos had a chance to tie the game with 9.3 seconds remaining.

Palm Beach moved the ball down to Southwest Florida's goal line and was inches away from a touchdown, and a shot to tie the game.

The Makos threw and defensive back Roson Allen picked off the pass, running it back for a clinching touchdown.

The Gladiators, who are the defending Florida Football Alliance champions, improved to 4-2 with the win. Southwest Florida goes on the road for the next three games before finishing the regular season with a home game against the Tampa Patriots.
