Local roundup | Kimsey fires complete game to lead Pirates
Eric Kimsey scattered six hits en route to the complete game for Braden River in a 4-2 baseball victory against Lennard in Ruskin on Friday.
Zacc Wiederman paced the Pirates, going 2 for 3, including a double, and an RBI. Tyler Dyson contributed a double and an RBI. Braden River returns to action Friday against Brandon.
Softball
Bradenton Christian 10, Imagine North Port 5 -- Abby Leahy went 3 for 3, including two triples and two RBIs, to lead the host Panthers (4-4, 2-2). Ariel Marciano went 3 for 4, including a double, 2 RBIs. Josie McCrea pitched the complete game to earn the win. Bradenton Christian's next scheduled game is at St. Pete Catholic on Tuesday, but will be rescheduled it the Panthers boys basketball team reaches the state final four.
Booker 7, Southeast 1 -- Host Booker scored three runs in the third inning to open a 5-0 lead and end Southeast's five-game win streak. Tira Perkins broke up a no-hitter in the third inning on a bunt single and Yami Regalado and Ivy Turner singled to complete the offense for Southeast (5-2, 2-1). Pitcher Rebecca Boesen took the loss. Southeast plays at Bayshore on Tuesday, 7 p.m.
Braden River 20, Lennard 0 -- Sarah Crawford celebrated her birthday by going 3 for 4 with two doubles, and Bethaney Keen went 3 for 3 with a double and 4 runs scored for the visitors in a game shortened to four innings. Ali Yawn added 2 hits as the Pirates (7-0, 3-0) produced 18 hits. Lexie Phelps gave up two hits in four innings for the win. The Pirates next face Brandon at home on Friday.
