Local round-up | Palmetto baseball holds off Riverview to continue perfect start to season
Palmetto baseball scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead on Sarasota-Riverview and held on for a 6-4 victory Wednesday in Palmetto.
Harrison Thiel went 2 for 4 and paced the offense with three RBIs. Alden Blaney added a run and three RBIs, and Casey Rodriguez drove in a pair.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 10, SARASOTA RIVERVIEW 0 -- Kailey Christian hurled a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Mustangs routed Riverview in Sarasota. Kinsey Goelz sparked a two-out outburst for Ranch (6-1) in the sixth to produce a 6-0 lead. Morgan Cummins added four RBIs for the Mustangs with a leadoff home run in the fourth plus a pair of doubles. Ranch opens its home schedule Thursday against Manatee.
Girls lacrosse
OUT-OF-DOOR 17, CARDINAL MOONEY 6 -- Tess Siciliano scored five goals, Abby LaGasse scored four, and Serena Feeney and Lexi Myers each scored three in the Thunder's rout of the Cougars in Sarasota. ODA returns home Thursday against Tampa Berkeley Prep.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 13, CARDINAL MOONEY 11 -- Ian Martin scored four times and Out-of-Door held off the Cougars for a district win in Sarasota. Jason Fineberg added a hat trick for the Thunder. Kevin Deems and attack Leland Wheeler each scored twice. Gus Mahler and Owen Han both scored. ODA gets a week off before returning for a home district game against Sarasota Military Academy. Mooney hosts a non-district game against Fort Myers Cypress Lake on Friday.
Junior college baseball
STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 6, BROWARD COLLEGE 4 -- The Manatees won their seventh in a row, topping Broward a day after weather postponed the originally scheduled meeting.
Infielder Jared Pruett (10-2) paced SCF's offense with a 2-for-4 performance and a pair of RBIs in Bradenton. Jeremy Orbik picked up the win in relief and Ryan Miller earned for a save.
The Manatees go on the road the next three days, beginning with a trip to New Port Richey to face Pasco-Hernando State College.
