Two more in Southwest Coast District Hall of Fame

On Feb. 11, at the opening ceremonies of the Southwest Coast District D-16 at Bradenton Shuffle Club, chairman Jerry Stannard inducted two more shufflers into the Hall of Fame.

Dick Whitaker has 505 lifetime District Points (curiously enough, to be tied with fellow member Ann Wedel for first in the District). Dick has served as an officer and has won many, many tournaments. Dick's first win was in February 1982 with his partner Russ DeHart, whom he partnered with for many years.

Pat Batdorff was also inducted with 382 points in the Ladies' Division. Her first win was in November 1985. Both of these players deserve the honor they have received, and Pat is currently in training to become a tournament director, showing great promise to be very good at that as well.

The fundraiser for the new Southwest Florida Shuffleboard Association Inc. on Saturday was happily carried out in perfect weather. Veterans were honored in the keynote speech and several veterans won prizes. We played a radical Turkey Shoot, also Hoss Collar, both marked variations on our usual shuffle games, and a good time was had by many.

A surprising discovery was the presence of a catering truck, which many players patronized for delicious snacks, and who plans to attend SWCD D-17 on Thursday at Bradenton to offer lunches to any players, spectators, officials or even neighbors; and also Friday for the second day of No Two Pros.

All players please take note that this is a schedule change, made to sweep the rain date to March 17, when all previous seasonal tournaments needing to finish due to rain can do so. In summary, No Two Pros is now set for Thursday, and lunches will be available.
