Braden River QB Jacob Huesman veers to Appalachian State from Florida International University

Braden River quarterback Jacob Huesman, a first-team All-Area member, decommitted from Florida International University, head coach Curt Bradley said via a text message.

Bradley said it was a tough decision for him and his family with Huesman choosing Appalachian State University instead.

National Signing Day, when college choices become official, is Feb. 3.

Braden River defensive back/linebacker JoJo Louis remains committed to FIU.

Several other Pirates have received college offers following a banner 13-1 season that ended in the Class 7A state semifinals with a loss to eventual champion Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas.

Huesman compiled 1,560 passing yards and a 67.7 completion percentage during the regular season. The senior signal-caller also tossed 14 touchdowns against three interceptions in Braden River's second consecutive undefeated regular season.
