Shuffleboard | Effort active to shorten games in district tournaments
Because so many lead active lives and don't want to waste time needlessly, Ron Nurnberger, district president, has announced new ways to move tournaments along.
In the several annual tournaments of 16 games or 75 points, our district has the option of trying a new type of third game when needed. All tournaments are best two of three games. When playing frame games (16 frames or 12 frames) or 16 frames or 75 points in the first two games, host clubs now have the option of not lagging for color choice for the third game. The alternative chosen is eight frames on each color, regardless of score. This would not only save time, but is also fairer on courts where the drifts favor one color. This change would be very helpful in making the tournament both faster and fairer.
Also, it has been suggested we try taking all fouro practice shots before marking a drift card so as to further save time. The hope is that shorter games will encourage larger registration.
