Golf Plus: Saint Stephen's alum Sean Kelly buoys South Carolina college golf victory

Saint Stephen's alum Sean Kelly helped the University of South Carolina win the Camden Collegiate Invitational for a second consecutive year. Kelly, a redshirt senior, did his most damage in the second round of the 54-hole event with a 5-under par 65. He finished in a tie for 26th place with a 9-over par total. The Gamecocks finished at 2-under par 838, which was 25 shots clear of runner-up Charleston Southern.

Next week's Callaghan Tire Charity Golf Tournament will also feature the Captain's Challenge for a second straight year. Former United States Senior Open champion Larry Laoretti will captain Team USA in a Ryder Cup-formatted event against Team Britain, which will see Bradenton's Tony Jacklin, a Hall of Fame golfer, captain. The event is slated for Nov. 12 and 13 at Bradenton Country Club.

The 18th annual Bradenton City Men's Amateur Championship is this weekend at River Run Golf Links. The 36-hole stroke play tournament begins Saturday and concludes Sunday. Missing Link Golf Academy student Antoine Santarelli won last year's tournament. Missing Link is located in Lakewood Ranch. Santarelli had back-to-back 68s for the victory. Scott Yow is the last back-to-back champion of the tournament, claiming titles in 2006 and 2007.

Lakewood Ranch's Adam Hogue is in the field for next week's Web.com Tour Qualifying School second stage at Brooksville's Southern Hills Plantation. The tournament begins Tuesday and concludes Friday. It's one of second stage venues next week, with two additional second stage sites operating the following week. Players that earn qualifying berths up for grabs at second stage advance to the final stage slated for Dec. 10-13 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. The most recent Sarasota Open champion, Carlos Sainz Jr., is in the field at Southern Hills Plantation, too.
