Class 1A and 2A Manatee County swim championship capsules
Here's a look at this weekend's district swimming championship meets that include Manatee County teams.
Class 1A-District 8
Where: Shorecrest Preparatory School
When: Saturday
Local teams: Bradenton Christian, Out-Of-Door-Academy, Saint Stephens, Cardinal Mooney (14 total schools)
OUTLOOK
GIRLS: BCS' Anna Fried is seeded first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 backstroke. Cardinal Mooney's Jillian Santiago is seeded first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 50 free; Mooney also has second seeds in Kristen Krebs (500 free) and Katherine Pepe (100 backstroke). ODA is led by Kate Price, who owns the school record in the 50 and 100 freestyle event and last year was part of the school record-breaking 200 freestyle relay team.
BOYS: ODA's Zach Szmania is seeded first in the 100 breaststroke and Martin Baffico, a member of the Chilean national team, is top seed in the 100 butterfly. The Thunder's Sarsen Whatmore is seeded second in the 500 freestyle. ODA is seeded first in the 200 medley relay.BCS Matt Garcia seeded first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 100 free. Matt Nutter seeded first in 100 freestyle and Connor Kesten is second in the 200 IM. Saint Stephen's Marshall Webster is seeded first in the 500 free.
CLASS 2A-District 9
Where: Holy Names School, Tampa
When: Saturday
Local teams: Southeast, Bayshore (9 schools).
OUTLOOK
GIRLS; Ryley Ober of Bayshore is seeded first in the 200 yard freestyle and second in the 100 yard backstroke. Alexandra Graham is seeded first in the 500 freestyle and the Lady Bruins are seeded second in the 200 freestyle relay and third in the 200 medley relay. Southeast is led by Amanda Nollert, who is seeded third in the 500 freestyle and the Lady Seminoles 400 freestyle relay team is seeded third.
BOYS: Bayshore's Ted Smith is seeded first in the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. The Bruins 200 medley relay team is seeded third. Holy Names is expected to dominate the girls division and Tampa Jesuit should do the same in the boys competition.
