Christian Pulisic Releases Statement Amid Backlash to World Cup Exit

Christian Pulisic is breaking his silence.

The U.S. men's national team star took to social media to release a statement, following the disappointing exit in the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup. The U.S. fell to Belgium, 4-1, in the Round of 16. The Americans, playing in their home country, were not able to reach the quarterfinals.

"Tough to find the words. I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who believed. The support carried us all the way through. It simply wasn't good enough from us in the end and I wanted to deliver so much more.. I still feel blessed to be a part of this team. The memories this summer will last a lifetime. It's just the start for us and for this sport in America. 🇺🇸," he wrote.

Pulisic, who faced criticism for leaving the Round of 16 game with an injury, told reporters following the game that he would now have time to "rest."

Unsurprisingly, soccer fans are trolling Pulisic in the comment section of his post on Wednesday evening.

Soccer fans taunting Pulisic over his World Cup statement

Soccer fans have taken to social media to taunt him.

"You can rest up next World Cup 😂✌️," one wrote.

"Rest up twin we had the same amount of goals at the WC 🔥🔥," one fan added.

"Genuinely, why did you skip the Gold Cup then if you can rest up now?" one fan added.

"You ghosted the entire tournament bro," one fan added.

"I'm glad you got some cool memories with your friends!" another fan joked.

Others, meanwhile, are defending him.

"Carried the USMNT on his back for years and the second he has an average tournament the fanbase turns on him…. Fans need a reality check," one fan added.

"Coming stronger in 4 years. You guys got this! Believe it!! 😍👏," another fan added.

The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, meanwhile, will continue on Thursday, with a Round of 8 game featuring France.
