Becky Hammon Puts WNBA Refs on Blast: 'Give Me My Fine'

Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon has had a whirlwind couple of days. Between getting raked over the coals for her freezing cold take on Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson and back-to-back losses for her WNBA team, she was perhaps understandably in a foul mood last night.

On Thursday, the Aces lost 95-87 to the Dallas Wings, giving the team their first back-to-back losses since July following Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. After the game, Hammon put the referees on blast for not awarding more free throws to her top players. She then dropped a couple of swear words and dared the WNBA to fine her over it.

"I'm (expletive) tired of that (expletive). When Awak Kuier shoots more free throws than A'ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chennedy Carter all combined, that's a problem... We're not getting the same whistle. Give me my fine," she said before walking away.

Backlash

WNBA fans weren't about to let the former Coach of the Year get away with complaining like that though. Many fans poked some pretty clear holes in her complaints about the referees and the whistles.

"She doesn't want to admit Awak played good defense on Aja forcing her to only go for fade-away's and rushing her shots as well," one user on X pointed out.

"Just obnoxiously untrue. A'ja Wilson has her own special whistle for years. Vegas just settled for jump shots all night while Dallas was the more aggressive and physical team," another remarked.

"Oh Becky you mostly just grossly mis-managed your rotation. I know Chelsea Gray is Chelsea Gray but at some point when she's shooting 20% from the field and being a liability you gotta give the bench more minutes," wrote another.

"acting like Awak shot 10 free throws… she shot 4 💀 and if I recall someone got 18 FTA a few games back so excuse me if idgaf ab these complaints," a third wrote.

"After how the refs allowed the Aces to clobber AR5 all game on Sunday without whistle, I don't want to hear you talk, Becky."

It's been a rough couple of days for Hammon to say the least. Arguably the bigger headline than her team's sudden struggles is the slew of fans that have ridiculed her for some old comments she made about Jalen Brunson not being good enough to win an NBA title as the leader of a team.

Hammon has defended her comments, declaring that she "said what she said," which isn't likely to make her any friends at Madison Square Garden anytime soon.
