Victor Wembanyam Called Out For Storming Off During Postgame Interview

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama got a warning from the NBA about skipping media obligations earlier this week. After leading the Spurs to a crucial Game 6 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder to force Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals, he fulfilled that obligation - but only minimally.

After the win, NBC's Ashley ShahAhmadi did an on-court interview with the Spurs superstar. It lasted less than 30 seconds before the French big man ran to the locker room.

"Trust in the coaches. Play with effort. Thank you," he said in response to a second question before making his way off the court.

Tightened up or Locked in?

Some NBA fans jokingly compared Wembanyama's agreement to even talk to ShahAhmadi to Marshawn Lynch's iconic refusal to talk to the media during his NFL career. But while some gave him grief over it, others believe he's just so locked in on the series that he can't focus on questions.

"That's a man that's locked in. Up until now you look at his post game interviews and he's too happy for the W, not realizing the weight of the series and that you have to win 4. In this interview, you see there's no joy in this Game 6. He's finally locked in & only sees Game 7," one user declared on X.

"This is the interview on @NBC . Sorry but that is completely unprofessional," another remarked.

"Oh he's locked in," a third said.

"He said I'm just here so I won't get fined fr."

The NBA tends to crack down hard on players who don't fulfill media obligations. The fact that he was given a warning rather than a fine suggests that they're giving him some leeway, but it's not infinite.

There's a good chance he'll be a few dollars lighter in the wallet before Game 7.
