Judge Facing Criticism For Sherrone Moore's Sentence Tuesday

Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore's disturbing home invasion case has finally come to an end.

Moore was fired by Michigan on Dec. 10, 2025 after a staff member told the university about their inappropriate relationship with him. He responded by showing up to the woman's apartment and threatening to harm himself. The former head coach of the Wolverines was then arrested and charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

Despite how serious the accusations were for Moore, he was only sentenced to 18 months' probation by District Court Judge Cedric Simpson this Tuesday afternoon. He was also fined just over $1,000.

"Frankly Mr. Moore, you had no right to do what you did," Judge Simpson said. "I know she was placed in fear. It was a traumatic experience for you, it was certainly a traumatic experience for her. But you had no right to spread your pain to her."

As you'd imagine, football fans believe Moore got off lucky with no jail time.

"No jail time is insane," a college football fan declared. "Privilege is real."

"It's unbelievable that he didn't get any jail time," a second fan wrote on social media.

"Slap on the wrist for behavior that often precedes murder," a social media user commented.

"So all of that for probation? Ridiculous," another fan said.

Sherrone Moore's wife played a huge role in this ruling.

Judge Simpson revealed that he was moved by the support Kelli Moore gave her husband during this situation.

"The person who is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the person who you betrayed," Simpson said. "When all of the circumstances are happening to her, and she is absorbing them in real time, she not once loses her focus, not once bats an eye to doubt you, not once wants something terrible to happen to you. As I listened to the terror in her voice that day, I don't think there would be anybody in the world who would have blamed her from saying, 'I am done here.' I am amazed by you Ms. Moore."

Only time will tell if Moore gets a second chance as a coach.
