Bradenton’s Whitney Osuigwe and Argentina’s Axel Geller, two IMG Academy tennis players, are No. 1 in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) girls and boys world rankings.

The two also will finish the year ranked No. 1 following blistering 2017 seasons.

It’s the first time in IMG’s 39-year history with tennis that two juniors ascended to the No. 1 world ranking in the same year.

The ITF named Osuigwe and Geller junior world champions on Friday.

In a article posted to ITFtennis.com, Osuigwe said: “It’s hard to put in words what exactly it means to have finished No. 1 this year and become junior world champion. This is very surprising and I could not be any happier.”

Osuigwe and Geller are slated to receive their junior world champion awards at the 2018 ITF World Champions dinner on June 5 in Paris during the French Open.

Osuigwe recently won the prestigious Eddie Herr girls 18s singles title at IMG Academy for her fifth singles crown in 2017. Osuigwe claimed the girls French Open title last summer. She climbed from No. 95 to No. 1 in the junior girls rankings to become an ITF junior world champion.
