Lakewood Ranch High boys, girls and Manatee’s Gabrielle Tomeo heading to state golf

Lakewood Ranch’s boys and girls teams punched their tickets to the Class 3A state golf tournament with their performances at the 3A-Region 5 tournament held Wednesday at Lakewood National Golf Club.

The Mustangs girls won the regional tournament with a 341 total, good for a 41-shot victory over runner-up Naples Gulf Coast.

The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 3-4 at the Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Ashleigh Angelo (79), Natalie Robson (82), Darby Laurvick (89), Ashlyn Einwachter (91) and Ashley Ringo (98) rounded out Lakewood Ranch’s lineup.

Manatee High senior Gabrielle Tomeo was the medalist with a 77 and will make her fourth straight state tournament appearance as an individual.

On the boys side, the Mustangs took second place with a 322 total for the last qualifying berth. Naples Gulf Coast won the tourney with a 320 total.

Matt Bruton (76), Drew Angelo (77), Mike Wijas (84), Mark Bruton (85) and Dylan Gabbert (91) rounded out the Mustangs’ lineup.
