Every season has its ups and downs, and the Saint Stephen’s Falcons are riding high.

They continued their recent dominance with a 53-6 win over Gateway Charter on Friday night.

The Falcons (4-0) found the end zone early and often, resulting in a running clock early in the second quarter and throughout the second half.

Chase Brown and Fred Billy both found the end zone twice in the first quarter. The highlight of the quarter was a 92-yard touchdown run by Chase Brown immediately following a penalty that had pushed the Falcons deep into their own territory.

Billy took the challenge to try to match the highlight of Chase Brown, scoring on a 78-yard run in the opening quarter. Billy finished with 97 rushing yards.

Billy wasn’t the only one to join in on the scoring action with Chase Brown as Sydney Brown, of the Brown twins, scored on a 27-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

“When you have kids that can get loose, it is exciting to coach those guys,” Saint Stephen’s head coach Todd Creneti said of the big plays.

While the Falcons easily soared over their competition, there was still a lot to be taken from this game. The defense was faced with a Gateway Charter offense that was forced to throw after falling behind early. Quarterback Tyious Savoy attempted 27 passes, forcing Saint Stephens defenders to be on their toes despite the big lead.

“We liked that our kids were tested in the passing game tonight, ” Creneti said.

Kris Walton scored Gateway Charter’s only touchdown on a 6-yard run.

The Falcons’ backups got plenty of time and second-string quarterback Cam Vining scored on a 68-yard touchdown run on the game’s final play.
