SCF falls, but Bayshore, BCS earn volleyball wins

The State College of Florida Manatees fell to 4-16 overall and 1-1 in conference play after losing in three games to Hillsborough Community College by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-12.

Leading the Manatees were Jayleen Abregana (nine kills, six digs), De’Aryll Green (seven kills, three blocks) and Eliska Truneckova (seven kills, 12 assists).

SCF’s next match is a doubleheader Saturday at Indian River State College. The Manatee face Eastern Florida at 2 p.m. and Indian River State College at 4 p.m.

Bruins victorious

Bayshore beat St. Petersburg Gibbs by scores of 25-9, 25-12, 25-6 on Thursday.

Leading the Bruins were Monica Pierre(five kills, four aces), Briana Mays (six kills); Karen Jeanmarie (five kills); and Hannah Crum (19 assists, six aces).

Bayshore imporved to 11-10 overall and 2-3 in district play and face Desoto on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Bayshore will host Volley for the Cure, during the 7 p.m. match, there will be a serving contest for prizes. Spectators may buy serves for 50 cents each and serve balls to targets.

All proceeds from the night go to breast cancer research.

Bradenton Christian wins

The Bradenton Christian Panthers defeated Sarasota Christian 3-2 Thursday to finish district play undefeated and earn the top seed going into the district tournament. The Panthers won by scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-23 and 15-8.

Leading the Panthers (17-6 overall, 5-0 district) were Madison Allen (12 kills, 31 digs), Hannah Wiers (seven kills), McKenzie James (seven kills, 26 digs), Calla Beukema (29 digs), Amy Van Ryn (13 kills and eight blocks), Emily Eurice (35 assists) and Ashley Waldo (36 digs).

BCS visits Braden River at 7 p.m. Monday.
