Local roundup: Bradenton Christian football team loses opener 24-0

Bradenton Christian held Jordan Christian Prep scoreless in the first half, but the Seahawks pulled away in the second half to hand the Panthers a 24-0 defeat in the regular season opener for both teams Friday night in Auburndale.

Steady rain in the second half made for some slippery conditions as the game wore on.

On offense for BCS, Travis Windham had 34 rushing yards, Zack Seagreaves completed 10 of 20 passes for 48 yards, and Bathie Thiam had three receptions for 15 yards.

For the Panthers’ defense, Winston Spencer had nine tackles and a sack.


State College of Florida fell to 0-3 with a pair of losses Friday at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne.

The Manatees lost to Polk State College 25-14, 25-18, 25-15, then dropped to host EFSC 25-16, 25-23, 25-19.

Top players for SCF included Eliska Truneckova (16 kills, 30 assists, 15 digs), Florencia Tucuna (11 kills, 3 blocks) and Gabrielle Woodson (23, digs 3 aces).

Up next, the Manatees have two more matches Saturday at noon and 2:30 p.m. against host Indian River State College and Miami Dade College in Fort Pierce.
