Bradenton RBI team falls in World Series quarterfinals

Bradenton RBI’s run at the RBI World Series came to an end Thursday with an 8-0 loss to Houston Astros RBI in the first round of bracket play in Cincinnati. Bradenton, which went 1-2 during pool play to earn the No. 2 seed in the West, was shut out for the second straight game and managed only one hit.

The local Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) juniors team was playing in the World Series for the second time in three years and third time ever. Bradenton’s only hit during the elimination game came from Matthew Snyder, who went 1 for 2.

Bradenton and the Houston Astros were scoreless until the third inning at P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy, when the Astros finally broke through to score four runs in the top of the frame. Bradenton was never able to counterpunch, and Houston added two more runs during both the fourth and sixth innings to complete the blowout win. Astros pitcher Keishaud Park tossed a complete-game one-hitter with four strikeouts.

Houston will face Chicago White Sox RBI in the semifinals Friday.
