Chinea, Cards slam the Marauders

Chris Chinea hit a third-inning grand slam and Connor Jones allowed six hits over seven innings as the Palm Beach Cardinals topped the Bradenton Marauders 12-3 at LECOM Park on Saturday in the Florida State League.

The grand slam by Chinea scored Jose Martinez, Jose Godoy and Thomas Spitz to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead. Bradenton had taken a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second on four consecutive hits, including an RBI double by Casey Hughston and a two-run single by Al Reyes.

The Cardinals added five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to finish the rout.

Bradenton starter Pedro Vasquez (9-5) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs and nine hits. He also struck out three and walked three.

Jones (7-4) struck out five while allowing three runs.
