Bradenton’s Sean Kelly ties for seventh at Canadian Tour golf event
Bradenton’s Sean Kelly posted his best finish on the 2017 Canadian PGA Tour this past weekend.
Playing the Mackenzie Investments Open presented by Jaguar Level near Montreal, Kelly ripped off back-to-back 66s on the weekend to close the tournament strongly. That earned Kelly a tie for seventh place and $4,914.58 (Canadian dollars) in earnings.
Kelly finished 10 shots behind Hank Lebioda’s winning total. Lebioda breezed to an eight-shot victory.
Junior golf camp
University Park Country Club is holding a new summer golf camp aimed for teenagers. The three-day camp for those age 13-18 runs Tuesday through Thursday. Among the topics covered: rules, etiquette and respect for the game; short game; fitness instruction; fundamentals of stance and alignment; ball position, posture and grip; pitching; scoring shots; practice habits; video analysis and a daily Q&A forum.
Participants receive a lunch voucher for the Thursday session, rules book, 18 holes of golf and prizes.
The cost is $199 per student, and sessions run from 8:45-11:15 a.m. (Tuesday), 9-11:30 a.m. (Wednesday) and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Thursday).

Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship results
Lake Mary’s Roanne Tomlinson won the Florida State Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Sara Bay Country Club on July 9.
Tomlinson carded a 74-74-73 for a 221 total to edge Miami Beach’s Jamie Freedman and Bonita Springs’ Kimberly Benedict by one shot. Bradenton’s Ailsa Clark posted the best finish among county golfers. She carded a 232 total to tie for 20th place.
Holes-in-one
On July 21 at IMG Academy Golf Club, Chris Clemann aced the 137-yard eighth hole with a pitching wedge. Witnessed by Mark Hazell.
On July 23 at University Park Country Club, Rick Marks aced the 181-yard 24th hole with a 4-iron. Witnesses were Frank Wakefield and Chad Thomspon.
