This week's best bets in the area sports world
The best bets for sports in the area this weekend:
▪ Fireworks after Saturday’s Bradenton Marauders game at LECOM Park. The Mauraders play the Florida Fire Frogs starting at 6:30 p.m. The first 1,500 fans receive a free T-Shirt. There’s a themed-jersey auction for Independence Day and a pre-game parachute demo. Tickets range from $6-10 plus parking. Contact the Marauders at 941-747-3031 for more information.
▪ The Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix is Saturday and Sunday. It’s a free event with qualifying races on Saturday at Lido Beach starting at 9:30 a.m. A fan fest starts at 10 a.m. at the Van Wezel with a swimsuit contest beginning at 1 p.m. there. Racing takes place Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. at Lido Beach.
▪ The Firecracker 5K run is in North Port on Tuesday, July 4. The race, which costs $25, begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Morgan Family Community Center, located at 6207 West Price Blvd.
