Bradenton Marauders top Lakeland despite being 3-hit
Cam Vieaux escaped two big jams and earned his first Florida State League victory with the Bradenton Marauders’ 1-0 victory against host Lakeland on Friday at Joker Marchant Stadium.
In the third inning of a scoreless game, Vieaux struck out Jake Robson and Will Allen to escape a one-out threat with runners on second and third.
In the sixth inning of a 1-0 game, Vieaux induced Luis Valdes to hit into an inning-ending, bases-loaded double play.
Vieaux (1-0) picked up the win after allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Austin Sodders (0-1) took the loss, giving up one run and three hits over six innings. The hits were the only ones Bradenton produced in the game, but all three came in the top of the sixth.
After leading off the inning with a single, Casey Hughston advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and went to third on a single by Alfredo Reyes. Hughston scored on a single by Mitchell Tolman.
Bradenton’s only other runners — created by walks — were erased on double plays in the fifth and the eighth.
Seth McGarry struck out two in the ninth to earn his seventh save.
The Flying Tigers were blanked for the ninth time this season, while the Marauders' staff recorded their fourth shutout of the year.
