Three Manatee County golfers qualify for Florida Open
Bradenton’s Nathan Bertsch earned medalist honors in Monday’s Florida Open qualifier at Lakewood National Golf Club.
Bertsch shot a 70 to snag one of six qualifying berths awarded. Lakewood Ranch’s Kymer Li, Bradenton’s Thomas Reddick and former IMG Academy standout Rigel Fernandes joined Sarasota’s Cole Taylor and Sarasota’s Brad Knight as the remaining qualifiers. Those five each carded 72s.
The Florida Open is scheduled for July 14-16 at Lecanto’s Black Diamond Ranch.
WFGT update
Former Sarasota Riverview star Michael Visacki edged Manatee High School alumnus Sean Jacklin and North Port’s Sebastian Mark by one shot in last week’s Manatee River Classic at Parrish’s River Wilderness Golf and Country Club. Visacki posted a 12-under-par 204 for his second West Florida Golf Tour victory this summer. Jacklin’s 66 in the final round gave him a share of second-place honors and $1,100 in earnings. Visacki collected $2,000 for the win, which was highlighted by a 65 in the final round that included an 8-under 28 on the front nine.
Summer camp
Bobby Jones Golf Club is holding three-day junior camps this summer: June 27-29, July 11-13 and August 8-10.
Each camp is for players 8-18 years old, and will focus on golf etiquette, driving, chipping and putting from instructors Christian Martin and Daniel Bailey.
Space is limited to 12 golfers per camp, which costs $100 per child per camp. That fee includes a kid-friendly lunch.
