Pair open 3-shot lead in Bradenton 2-Man Championship
Scott Bischofberger and Scott Cox shot a 63 to build a three-shot lead after the first round of the 19th annual City of Bradenton 2-Man Championship at River Run Golf Links on Saturday.
Bischofberger and Cox shot a 32 on the front nine and a 31 on the back. Two twosomes posted matching 66s. Tim Judy and Phil Walters are tied with Dave Perna and Jeremy Perna.
In the Super Seniors flight, Jay Frye and Bob Thorpe are tied with John Gering and Ken Kirchner at 65, two shots clear of the third-place team of Paul Kirby and Bill Soucie.
The tournament concludes Sunday. Tee times begin at 7:28 a.m.
FSGA: Ailsa Clark of Bradenton advanced to the match-play portion of the Florida State Golf Association’s 88th Women’s Amateur Championship at the World Golf Village on Thursday.
She shot a two-day total of 149 in the stroke-play portion of the tournament and advanced as the 31st seed in the 32-player match-play portion. She lost to second-seeded Sophie Membrino of Ponte Vedra Beach, 4 and 3, in the round of 32 on Friday.
She was the only player with local ties to advance out of the stroke-play portion.
The tournament concludes Sunday with the semifinals and 18-hole final.
Bradenton’s Rachel Carlson (152) and Lakewood Ranch’s Sara DeMarco (171) were also in the starting field.
USGA: Slovakia teenager Teddy Tetak, who has trained at IMG Academy, won the U.S. Junior Amateur local qualifier on the Harbourside Course at Longboat Key Club in Sarasota on Thursday. Tetak now resides in Sarasota.
With the victory, he earned one of the two qualification berths from the local site for the national championship, which is scheduled for Flint Hills National Golf Club, in Andover, Kansas, on July 17-22.
Tetak finished with a 67. Jackson Suber, of Tampa, earned the second qualifying berth from the site with a 70.
Sarasota’s Joshua Perna (71), Bradenton’s Tyler Carlson (72), Sarasota’s Erik Souchak (73) also finished in the top 10.
Florida Open: The area qualifying tournament for the FSGA’s annual Florida Open is scheduled for Monday at Lakewood National Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch.
The field is filled with area residents, including Souchak and Jeremy Perna.
Tee times for the 18-hole qualifier are schedule to start at 8 a.m. and continue through 9:30 a.m. Players will tee off both the first and 10th tees.
The Florida Open is scheduled to be played at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto July 14-16.
