Brandon Carnes fails to advance to 100 final at NCAA DI championship
University of Northern Iowa senior Brandon Carnes, a graduate of Manatee High School, finished 13th fastest in the men’s 100-meter preliminaries late Wednesday and did not qualify for the event final at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Carnes, who was ranked fifth in the nation with a best time of 9.97 seconds this season, qualified for the championships with a 10.02 time that had him seeded fifth was unable to shake off the effects of an injury he sustained late last month while competing at the NCAA West regional competition. He pulled up in the 200 during that competition.
On Wednesday, he managed a 10.16 second time, more than a tenth slower that the eighth and final qualifier.
