Southeast High athletic director Daniel Bradshaw stepping down
Southeast High is looking for a new athletic director.
Daniel Bradshaw, who has been with the Seminoles for 13 years — 3 1/2 years as an athletic director — has resigned.
Bradshaw said he’s taking a teaching job and will become an assistant football coach at T.L. Hanna High in Anderson, S.C., so he can be at home more and get involved with his children’s activities.
Bradshaw has three kids, ages 11, 7 and 2.
“It was a tough decision to leave (this) place. I’ve been here for 13 years in a variety of roles,” Bradshaw said. “I have three kids, and the need to change our schedule up so I’m home a little more as my kids grow was important to me.”
Bradshaw said he’ll teach math at his new school, and a return to coaching is something he missed during his tenure as Southeast’s athletic director.
“Standing on the sideline as an A.D. versus being able to be active coaching has been difficult just because of my personality,” Bradshaw said. “I want to get involved, and it’s a passion of mine.”
Bradshaw moved from coaching football to the athletic director position after longtime head coach and athletic director Paul Maechtle retired in 2014. Bradshaw hired current head football coach Rashad West after John Warren resigned after two seasons.
The Seminoles reached the playoffs in West’s first season last fall, and also qualified for the playoffs in 2015.
“I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to sit back and watch some other guys coach, and learn what they do well,” Bradshaw said. “And hopefully in my future opportunities, I can apply some of those things. But it’s something I look forward to getting back into.”
Southeast’s baseball program won a district title this past spring after Bayshore High was forced to forfeit the district championship game following a pitch count rule violation in the semifinals.
But the crowning achievement under Bradshaw’s watch this past season was the Noles’ wrestling program.
Southeast won its first region championship since 1993 and sent five wrestlers to the Class 1A state championship meet, with Darrien Grant, Alex Roldan, Stephen Kelle, Jonathan Locke and Chevaughn Rose representing the Noles at states.
The position was posted to the Florida High School Athletic Association’s website on May 15.
