Keller leaves game early; Marauders’ streak ends
Bradenton Marauders starting pitcher Mitch Keller gave up two earned runs in the first inning before leaving the game because of back tightness in Daytona’s 6-3 victory in Florida State League play on Tuesday in Daytona.
The loss ends Bradenton’s winning streak at seven games.
With Keller (3-2) struggling to get loose, the Tortugas’ Nick Senzel cashed in, hitting a two-run home run in the first. Senzel finished with two hits and drove in four.
That was more than enough for Daytona starter Jesus Reyes (4-1) who struck out nine and allowed three hits over six innings. One of those hits was a two-out, two-run double by Cole Tucker in the fifth. Tucker scored the Marauders’ other run in the eighth, on a bases-loaded walk to Jordan George. The Marauders (25-14) failed to score again in the inning despite having the bases loaded with none out.
Daytona (21-18) added a run in the third on a home run by Gavin LaValley. The Tortugas tacked on three in the seventh when Senzel hit a two-run double and scored on a single by LaValley.
