Hometown heroes: How to watch former area football stars in Week 12
Saturday, Nov. 19
Virginia at Georgia Tech, 12:30 p.m., ACC Network
Who’s playing: Jake Stickler, OL, Manatee
Stickler, who has played in five games for Georgia Tech as a redshirt sophomore, remains slotted as the Yellow Jackets’ backup left tackle, although GT is willing to move Stickler around.
Duke at Pittsburgh, 3 p.m., ACC Network
Who’s playing: Danny Doyle, DE, Manatee
Doyle continues to backup Dominic McDonald at defensive end for Duke. The redshirt sophomore has played in eight games this year and started three during his first fall as a scholarship player.
Youngstown State at Missouri State, 3 p.m., ESPN3
Who’s playing: Eric Thompson, DB, Southeast
Thompson and Youngstown State, ranked No. 14 in the Football Championship Subdivision, close the regular season Saturday against Missouri State. The senior will start at nickel back as the Penguins try to bolster their playoff resume — the FCS tournament includes 24 teams with 10 going to conference championships.
No. 17 Florida State at Syracuse, 3:30 p.m., ABC
Who’s playing: Demarcus Christmas, DT, Florida State
Christmas logged a pair of tackles during Saturday’s 45-7 win against Boston College and remains No. 17 Florida State’s starting defensive tackle. The redshirt sophomore has started every game this season for the Seminoles.
Temple at Tulane, 3:30 p.m., ESPN3
Who’s playing: Brodrick Yancy, WR, Manatee
Temple returns from a bye week with Yancy as one of its three starting wide receivers. The redshirt sophomore has 24 catches for 284 yards this season.
South Florida at Southern Methodist, 7 p.m., CBS Sports Network
Who’s playing: Jonathan Hernandez, P, Manatee; Michael Galati, OL, Manatee; Brooks Larkin, OL, Manatee
Hernandez has slowed a bit, averaging fewer than 40 yards per punt in three straight games, but the redshirt sophomore remains South Florida’s starting punter. Galati and Larkin remain backup offensive lineman with Galati, a sophomore, at center and Larkin, a redshirt freshman, at right guard.
Presbyterian at South Alabama, 7 p.m., ESPN3
Who’s playing: Andrew Zink, LS, Manatee
Zink continues to serve as South Alabama’s starting long snapper as a freshman. The Jaguars need to go 2-1 down the stretch to qualify for a bowl game.
No. 9 Penn State at Rutgers, 8 p.m., Big 10 Network
Who’s playing: Josh Hicks, RB, Palmetto
Hicks saw his most carries since Rutgers’ second game of the season when he carried seven times during a 49-0 loss. Those seven carries, however, amounted to only three yards. He remains one of the Scarlet Knights’ backup running backs despite a disappointing junior season. He has 166 yards this season after running for at least 440 in each of his first two seasons in Piscataway, N.J.
