Floridians bring home two world shuffleboard championship titles

The Florida-dominated Men’s and Ladies’ USA East teams won the World Championships in St. Cloud last week.

Bob Smith of the Southern District was the men’s team captain. Also on the team, well-known to some readers of this column, are Phil Rebholz, Rosaire Cote, Harold Thorne, Bill Hoyer, and Bob Jones Jr.

Joyce Smith captained the ladies team, all of whom are from Florida: Kathy Brennan, Jeannie Andrews, Landy Adkins, Allie Enos and Doris Hanke. Congratulations to all these friends and current world champions!

All district clubs should be represented at the open district board meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bradenton Shuffle Club. Only thrice per season is an open forum held, and the board and club presidents, or their delegates, have the vote. It is conducted in the spirit of a New England town meeting. Everyone is considered to have rights and privileges. Issues that may arise include whether 16 frames or 12 frames are more appropriate for tournament standards or whether events with small turnouts, such as 14 players at SWCD A-1 at Golf Lakes, should be played with no points or played as singles with points awarded. Everyone’s opinion will be considered, so please attend.

On an unrelated note, Tri-Par intends to renew and improve their entire shuffleboard facility.

Happy Shuffling.
