World Team shuffleboard event visits St. Cloud

St. Cloud Shuffleboard Club, which is a two-hour drive from Bradenton, is playing host to the 35th World Team Championship Tournament this week (though Friday). The logo for the event reads “Celebrating Small Town Life.” Indeed St. Cloud, which is southeast of Kissimmee, is likely the smallest town to host this event in recent history.

Those who choose to attend will observe much pageantry. Scheduled to compete are 105 players from 14 countries. This writer has played in nine such events with much pleasure, but is not on a team this year.

NOTABLY

Readers planning to compete in the National Singles at Bradenton Shuffle Club on Oct. 31 should note that a food truck will be present to offer lunch. This is a change from the information in the tournament PREVIEW and in published schedules. Such a truck at some Bradenton tournaments last season proved very popular.

In another change, the PREVIEW reported that lunch would be served at Tropical Haven in Melbourne on the East Coast this year. However, no lunch will be available at any tournament. Don Rood, the Central District president, announced at the Florida Shuffleboard Association meeting Oct. 15 that a work crew has put permanent beads on several courts, and he praised the crew’s work. He reported that the crew could perform this function beyond the Central District if requested.
