Ryder begins alternative fuel project
A national transportation company headquartered in Miami embarked on an alternative fuel project.
Ryder System, a company that leases and rents out trucks for commercial business, ordered 202 natural-gas-fueled trucks that will be provided to businesses throughout Souther California.
The project, which began April 2010, is a partnership with Southern California Association of Governments Clean Cities Coalition, an association of South California government groups. The $38.7 million initiative is partially funded by state and federal resources and partially by Ryder.
Aside from distributing the trucks by September, Ryder is also planning to build two natural gas stations.
Natural gas is a domestic resource and it is 25 percent cleaner than the cleanest Diesel, said Scott Perry, Ryder group director of vehicle supply management.
According to a press release from Ryder, the project will displace 1.5 million gallons of diesel.
