Mega-jet coming to MIA in June

The world’s largest commercial airliner is coming to Miami.

German airline Lufthansa announced Thursday that the 526-seat, double-deck Airbus A380 will start daily flights between Frankfurt and Miami International Airport on June 10.

The airport started preparing for the giant aircraft last summer, modifying two existing loading bridges and adding a third, said MIA spokesman Greg Chin. The work is expected to be finished in May.

Lufthansa’s flight will be the first in Miami carrying passengers on the A380.

“We’ve been sort of waiting by the phone for this for years,” Chin said. “We’re ecstatic.”

The Miami-Frankfurt flights are available for booking with rates that start at $614 each way.

The airline also said it will bring back its seasonal flight between Miami and Düsseldorf in October, starting with three flights a week and increasing to daily frequency in November.
