Cortez Bridge stuck in upright position

The Cortez Bridge is stuck in the upright position, and officials don’t know how long it will be before it’s fixed.

According to Bradenton Beach police Sgt. Lenard Diaz, the bridge became stuck around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“Every once in a while, the bridge breaks down and this is what happens,” he said.

Traffic is being diverted at Cortez Road and Gulf Drive. Westbound traffic should avoid the Cortez Bridge.
