Deputy’s gift very precious
Having been the spouse of a police officer for 25 years in Michigan, it broke my heart to see them hunted and shot down like animals. Some of them were young, possibly just starting their careers where others were older, maybe war retirees.
I am sure they gave a lot of thought before going into this profession. The pay wasn’t the greatest and neither were their hours.
There was a lot of sacrifice with missing family get-togethers and being real involved as their children grew up. But their desire was to help their fellow man. Now they had made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.
Several weeks ago I was on my way home after a busy day. I was hungry and tired and wanted to get home before dark.
At Subway when I got to the cashier, she had a grin on her face and said that my bill had been paid. A sheriff’s deputy two people ahead of me had paid for me.
Before I could reach him he was already pulling out of the parking lot. I wanted to thank him and tell him why I had a soft spot in my heart for law enforcement officers.
He really made my day! I shed a few tears over that one.
We need to show these special people how much we appreciate them and their sacrifice.
The next time you run into one of them, give them a smile, thank them and let them know they are in your prayers. When they leave for work that day, they never know if they will be coming home.
If we could all love our fellow man as brothers, “what a wonderful world this would be.”
God bless!
