Reverse vote on Peninsula Bay

Peninsula Bay would be built on 359 acres owned by Manatee Fruit Co., north of Cortez Road. The project calls for 1,950 residential units, 90,000 square feet of nonresidential uses, a dry storage marina for 200 boats and a boat ramp.

The Manatee County Planning Commission meeting regarding Peninsula Bay on July 14 did not allow sanity to prevail. Cortez Road is already congested, so it doesn’t need more traffic.

The effects of the decision are not short term; they will affect all future generations.

Hopefully, there is time to rethink the situation, and reality can check in when the Manatee County Commission meets Sept. 1.
