Gracious thanks for animal coverage
This is a public “thank you” to Herald reporter Claire Aronson for her super journalism and the great work she does for the Humane Society of Manatee County.
Claire wrote the June 20 “Amazing 13-year-old dog needs a new home” article. It was the headline story in the local section of the Bradenton Herald with a color photo by Marc R. Masferrer.
We read the newspaper with our breakfast every day. We agreed we could take care of another dog. I immediately left a message with the Humane Society. Brenna Beightol returned my call, saying there were about 10 calls for Gracie Lou, but because we adopted “Murray” (a 13-year-old dog) last Oct. 2015, we had priority and could adopt Gracie Lou.
We had out-of-country company so I asked if I could pick her up on Friday. Brenna said “OK.”
On Friday at 11 a.m., I went to pick her up. They all were friendly, but asked if I could come back at noon to meet with Claire and Marc. I went home and came back with my husband.
Claire has made us celebrities. At restaurants, church, dancing class, etc. people recognize us and thank us for adopting Gracie Lou. This is all due to the superb journalism of Claire Aronson, who has made an impact on the community of supporting the animal services of the county.
Thank you, Claire, for your heartfelt devotion to the animals.
PS: Gracie Lou and Murray are getting along just fine.
