Cortez growth will strain roads

Peninsula Bay would be built on 359 acres owned by Manatee Fruit Co., north of Cortez Road. The project calls for 1,950 residential units, 90,000 square feet of nonresidential uses, a dry storage marina for 200 boats and a boat ramp.

Thank you for your story about the proposed Peninsula Bay development on Cortez Road West. It is a shame that more people did not speak against the development, since 1,950 new homes and 16,000 more daily trips will be added to Cortez Road West between 119th and 102nd streets west with the approval of this development by the Manatee County Planning Commission on July 14.

It is a shame that the men on the Planning Commission approved the new development with a vote of 6-1. It is a shame that the problem of congestion on Cortez Road was not considered because that is “not the job of the Planning Commission” to solve the traffic problems in Manatee County.
