Use gas tax funds for improvements
Oh boy, another tax the county wants us to vote for in November.
Let’s see, in Florida we already pay just over 36 cents per gallon of gas in taxes that goes to roads, bridges, sidewalks, basically "transportation" infrastructure. Our elected officials find strange places to spend that money that you would be hard pressed to see how that funded item has anything to do with improving our roads.
I realize that money has a hard time trickling down to the local level because the feds and even the state legislators do not like cutting loose of it.
Enough! We have lots of new people moving here in Florida and so that means tons more of gas tax dollars rolling in. Let the local officials request they receive more of the pie that is rolling in to the feds and state as increased revenue, and keep their hands out of my wallet.
So the next time you’re at the gas pump, just glance down to see how much you already spend to improve transportation infrastructure with each fill up.
