Trump merits tough scrutiny

A recent Letter to the Editor, “Trump critics cite nonsense” reminded me of the saying, “Perception is Nine Tenths of Reality.” The writer bemoans that Donald Trump is being faulted by his critics “for things he did 20, 30, or 40 years ago.” Apparently, she is missing the fact that Trump, himself, is doing exactly that to Hillary Clinton.

So far Trump has brought up the fact that Hillary was a “Goldwater Girl” in her youth when Barry Goldwater, a conservative Republican, ran for the presidency, and then she later became a Democrat, as if there is something wrong with that.

He has suggested that Vince Foster, a Clinton White House aide, may not have committed suicide, but that the Clintons may have been involved somehow in his “murder.” The fact is Foster had been suffering from severe depression when he took his own life.

Trump is bringing up Bill Clinton’s infidelities and blaming Hillary Clinton for being an enabler. How many women stay with an unfaithful husband because they believe their marriage vows were sacred, or they don’t want to break up their family?

The irony is that Trump has been married three times and is a well known philanderer. It is also a fact that he is currently involved in litigation and being sued for bilking students out of tuition to attend his so-called school.

Hillary Clinton has been vetted for decades. We know most of her faults, both real and imagined. However, who knows what other negatives may come out about Trump, and if they happened many years ago, I would tell Trump to suck it up. He has mastered the art of the personal attack on others with no regard to a time frame.
